Greenheart Earth Olympics, Worm Composting Workshop

Greenheart Earth Olympics is a family-fun, and FREE event of interactive “Olympic Games” and educational workshops in Chicago's Wicker Park. Brought to you by Center for Cultural Interchange, Greenheart Shop, Wicker Park Advisory Council, and the Chicago Park District. This day-long event focuses on increasing awareness of other cultures, the environment, and ways we can change our habits for the global good. GEO is open to the entire Chicago community: adults, kids, and families! Community yoga and meditation open the day. Urban Worm Girl will be conducting an hour-long workshop on indoor composting, and showing off the red wiggler worms. A cultural music performance and parade will immediately follow and lead into a closing ceremony & after-party of food, socializing and more at the Greenheart Shop at 1919 West Division! Spring has sprung! Earlier and warmer than ever, so don't miss your chance to start composting. Learn how you can compost year round with worms, Bokashi, and other forms of indoor composting. Sign up today and you can reserve your equipment for set-up during the workshop. You and others will benefit from the expertise of Urban Worm Girl as we go through the step-by-step process and learn what to expect in the future care and maintenance of a worm bin or Bokashi bucket. Where can you purchase organic plants that are also classroom education tools? Come purchase these beautiful plants for your garden or as a gift! A wide variety of edible flower, vegetable, and herb plants will be available during this fun family event. Come early for the best selection! This program is a joint fundraiser of the Prairie Crossing Learning Farm and the Prairie Crossing Charter School. Students and parent volunteers assist in the seeding, transplanting, and watering of organic plants that are raised in the Learning Farm greenhouse. Aurora’s Green Fest is presented by Aurora Green Lights, in affiliation with The Conservation Foundation. This environmental festival arrives just in time to get the Fox Valley ready for a summer of earth-friendly living. Adults and children alike will explore the latest ideas in clean technology, green building, renewable energy, recycling, organic gardening, and natural foods. Urban Worm Girl will be demonstrating worm composting with a workshop from 1:30-2:00pm. This event is free to the public.

Urban Worm Girl returns to beautiful Independence Park for their 2012 summer farmers' market. The Market includes a wide variety of vendors featuring: fruit and vegetable vendors from throughout the Midwest, baked goods and pastries, coffee roasters and brewing, local honey, fresh-made crepes, a variety of hand-made pastas, delicious Mediterranean olives & oils, knife-sharpening and watch repair, hand made soaps, dog training, live music, and children's activities. Bring your appetite, and join us for a lovely afternoon in at the Market. Free parking in the lot to the north of the park, on Irving Park Road, and on surrounding side streets.
